Is there a limit to the number of players who can register?
Yes, there is a limit due to the fixed number of fields and days available for practice and play. The number will vary depending on the league of your player. Please note that we will not be able to place all registered players on teams, but we do maintain a waitlist.
Who can register for baseball?
Both boys and girls can play baseball. Only girls can play softball.
What does the registration fee pay for?
Registration fees cover a players jersey, hat (for baseball), socks, belt, end of season trophy (not for baseball Major and Senior leagues), umpires, game balls, field equipment (first aid kits and general maintenance items), field lighting and utility bills, score keeping, insurance premiums, etc.
What other expenses not covered by the registration fee should I expect?
Additional uniform items such as pants and cleats (note metal cleats are not allowed in an league except for baseball 13-15U Senior league), batting helmets (a facemask is required for baseball Rookie - AAA league players), a fielder's mask for softball players, a bat, a glove, a protective cup (required for all male catchers), lettering on jerseys, pictures (if you choose to have them taken), team party, and coaches' gifts.
Does my child have to "try out" for a team?
All players registered on the active roster will be placed on a team. Player evaluations will take place for every league but are not considered "try outs." Player evaluations will evaluate your child’s basic skills and playing ability. Managers and coaches will choose their players via a draft.
Can my player play up or down in a baseball league?
DHYS does not allow players to play up or down in baseball leagues. Baseball ages are based off of age cutoffs determined by Dizzy Dean Baseball. Baseball ages for the current season are based on the players age as of April 30 and can be found
here.
