DHYS Bat Rules
Beginning January 1, 2018, USA Baseball will implement a new method for measuring bat performance in the testing of youth baseball bats. The new "USA Bat Standard" will create wood-like performance in youth baseball bats.
- All bats must be made of wood, metal, graphite, or ceramic material
- All bats must be round
- All bats must be manufactured for baseball play and be no longer than 42“
Bat Rules per Leagues
Rookie Baseball (5U & 6U)
Allowed:
- Wood barrel bats
- Metal tee ball bats with or without a material certification stamp
- Composite and metal bats with a USA Baseball stamp
- Barrel width no greater than 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest part
Prohibited: All composite bats without a material certification stamp are prohibited.
AA Baseball (7U & 8U)
Allowed:
- Wood barrel bats
- Composite and metal bats with a USA Baseball stamp
- Barrel width no greater than 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest part
Prohibited: All composite bats without a material certification stamp and all "T-Ball" bats are prohibited.
AAA Baseball (9U & 10U) and Majors Baseball (11U & 12U)
Allowed:
- Wood barrel bats
- Composite and metal bats with a USSSA 1.15 BPF material certification or USA Baseball stamp
- Barrel width no greater than 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest part
Prohibited: All composite bats without a material certification stamp and all "T-Ball" bats are prohibited.
Senior League (13U, 14U, & 15U)
Allowed:
- Wood barrel bats
- Composite and metal bats with a BBCOR, USSSA 1.15 BPF material certification, or USA Bat Standard stamp. Note: any material except wood requires a material certification stamp
- Barrel width maximum 2 5/8" diameter at the widest part
- All Players shall use bats no lighter than a drop -5
Middle School League (6th, 7th, & 8th grades)
Allowed:
- Wood barrel bats
- Composite and metal bats with a BBCOR, USSSA 1.15 BPF material certification, or USA Bat Standard stamp. Note: any material except wood requires a material certification stamp
- Drop (length and weight):
- 6th and 7th grade players shall use a drop-9 or less
- 8th grade players are required to use a drop-5 or less
