Rec Programs and Leagues

Spring

Rec (Competitive):

  • Registration opens generally early November
  • Player evaluations are generally in mid-late January
  • Teams will be drafted following evaluations
  • Practice begins: Early February
  • First Grapefruit (Baseball Pre-Season) game: Late February
  • First Regular Season game: Mid March
  • Last Baseball game of the season: End of April
  • Makeup games / playoffs begin: End of April/early May
  • Season generally runs from early February to mid-late May
What to expect (subject to change)
During Grapefruit season there will be:During the Regular season there will be:
  • Two practices a week
    • One on Sunday – which will remain throughout the season
    • One on a weeknight
  • One game on Saturday – which will remain throughout the season
  • One practice a week on Sunday

  • Two games a week
    • One on a rotating weeknight
    • One on Saturday

Middle School (Competitive):

  • Please connect with your Team coach to find out your practice schedule
  • Games are typically scheduled on Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday (but are possible on any day depending on the weather and the need for make-up games) 
  • Games are played primarily on Field 6 at Medlock Park and Kelley Cofer Park in Tucker. There may be some games that require travel to other parks, such as Dunwoody Senior Baseball (Brook Run Park), Sandy Springs, NYO, and Wade Walker
  • The season will end with a tournament, hopefully the week before DeKalb County Spring Break, weather permitting, but may go longer if needed

Summer


Sandlot (Fun):

  • Registration is generally May 1 – 31 (pending availability)
  • No evaluations
  • Season generally runs through June and July

  • One game on Saturday – with a short practice prior to the game

All-Stars (Highly Competitive):

  • Registration is generally early March to April (players MUST be participating in a Spring Rec league)
  • Competitive tryouts generally in end March/early April
  • Season generally runs from Memorial Day through mid July

Fall

Rec (Developmental):

  • One practice on a weeknight – which will remain throughout the season
  • One game on Saturday or Sunday

Rookie League (5U/6U)

Rookie 5U/6U: The focus of this league is to introduce the fundamentals of baseball (throwing/catching/hitting) in a friendly, fun, non-competitive environment. Players will begin by hitting off a batting tee, progressing to coach pitch later in the season. There are no strike outs in Rookie league. A half-inning is completed after 3 outs or when a team scores 5 runs. Scores are not kept for these games.

  • Typically, each team has 12 players, allowing all players to play the infield and outfield, hit, and cheer during games.
  • All players will play the infield at least one inning within first four innings of game.
  • No player will sit on the bench for two innings until every player has sat at least one inning.
  • Players are drafted onto teams aiming to group like-skilled players together, facilitating a better learning experience and safer playing environment (stronger players may hit or throw the ball extremely hard to a less skilled player, resulting in injury). Safety is paramount and we must try to avoid these situations.

  • During the week practice times are expected to be 5:30 and 6:30 
  • Sunday practices start at noon and run most of the rest of the day
  • Actual times will be determined based on the number of teams in each league

Bat Rules

Allowed:

  • Wood barrel bats
  • Metal tee ball bats with or without a material certification stamp
  • Composite and metal bats with a USA Baseball stamp
  • Barrel width no greater than 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest part

Prohibited: 

  •  All composite bats without a material certification stamp 

AA League (7U/8U)

AA 7U/8U: The focus of this league is to reinforce and/or introduce the fundamentals of baseball, in addition to introducing more advanced baseball concepts and competition in a friendly, fun environment. All games are coach pitch. A half-inning is completed after 3 outs or when a team scores 5 runs. A scoreboard is run for these games, a winner/loser is determined during each game, standings are posted throughout the season, and in the Spring the post season includes a playoff concluding with a league champion.

  • Typically, each team has 12 players, allowing all players to play the infield and outfield, hit, and cheer.
  • All players will play the infield at least one inning within first four innings of game.
  • No player will sit on the bench for two innings until every player has sat at least one inning.
